PIANO ATPA tests have started at Leonardo’s Helicopters Division facilities

Last July, the ICR’s vibroacoustics R+D team carried out the first experimental campaign of the Piano Project. This took place at the Leonardo Helicopter Division (LHD) facilities in Cascina Costa, Italy. At their facilities, an Advanced Transfer Path Analysis (ATPA) test was carried out on a prototype of a tiltrotor aircraft developed by LHD.

The ATPA analysis carried out was static in the passenger cabin and in the tiltrotor structure. The purpose of these measures is to better understand the paths of sound transmission and vibrations in the critical parts of the aircraft. Furthermore, the ATPA will also provide experimental data that will allow us to later compare and validate the numerical models currently developed.

The results of the measurement campaign were fruitful and a new campaign is being organised together with LHD which will take place in the coming months. Future steps will focus on further development of ATPA tools and on obtaining SEA factors from the experimental results of transmission pathway analysis.
