ICR: innovating for a quieter journey
QuieterRail is a European research project focused on reducing railway noise and improving the accuracy of noise measurement methods.
The project brings together key partners from industry, research institutions, and academia to develop innovative solutions that address the challenges of railway noise emissions, particularly in the context of new propulsion technologies and evolving regulatory standards.
The QuieterRail work plan is organised into eight Work Packages (WPs), as indicated in Figure below, which each contribute to fulfil the overall objectives.
ICR leads Work Package 2 and contributes to experimental validation activities in Work Package 1.

What does ICR contribute?
Improving the methodology for transposing pass-by noise data between different measurement sites.
Assessing the uncertainties associated with pass-by noise measurements.
Evaluating the noise emissions of new propulsion technologies, such as hydrogen or battery-based systems.
